The very purpose of this server is to provide an atmosphere that promotes and encourages the highest caliber of role-playing. What this means is that when a player logs onto the server with their character, it is important for the player to disassociate himself personally from his character. This does not mean that the player refuses to care about the success or well-being of their character. It does mean, however, that the player be mature enough to realize that what affects, or afflicts, their character is not to be taken personally. What happens between characters is truly fictitious and is not a personal interaction between the players, but instead is only an element of a story.
This also means that when a player logs on with their character, they should be attempting to step into their character, to truly breathe a sense of realism and life into them. The goal is to create a truly unique character, with their own personal goals, fears, ambitions, even failures. Just as our own real life experiences, whether they are success or failure, has shaped us into who we are, so too should the experiences of our characters.
Not all characters will get along. Some will grow to hate each other, perhaps even plot (or carry-out) the murder of their hated nemesis. Some characters will form lasting bonds and become the staunchest defender of their closest companions. Whatever happens, whether for good or bad, please let us all keep in mind that it is only fictitious and that we are all in the process of telling a long, complex story filled with unexpected twists, serendipity and uncertainty.
Whether you choose to be a valiant paladin of Torm, a greedy rogue, a black-hearted drow, or any other imaginable concept, we hope you do so for the enjoyment of it. Some of us are experienced role-players, some of us are novices, but we all have room to grow and we can all learn from each other. Please be respectful of one another (on an OOC level, if nothing else) and enjoy yourselves. Embrace your character's defeats just as you embrace their successes, and allow your character the flexibility to grow and adapt to whatever the fates may throw at them!
