Rules and Responsibilities Empty Rules and Responsibilities

The rules are few, and they are goverened by a single Golden Rule:

    "Have fun!"

We all login and play so that we may have fun; please don't ruin it for anyone else!

    Rules:

    1. This is a role-playing server
Please stay in character while playing. Out of Character (OOC) communication may be done so through private channels, through limited use of the Shout channel, and also by enclosing your comments in ((double brackets)).

Also, please remember that you and your character are not the same and do not take your character's failures or setbacks personally. Please take these in stride and use them to help your character grow.

    2. Griefing and Harassment
These are in direct violation of the Golden Rule. Zero tolerance! If you intentionally attempt to ruin the fun of others, please do so elsewhere!

    3. Player versus Player
Due to the nature of simply respawning, PVP has some inherent problems in a MMO setting. That being said, PVP is frowned upon and other means of role-play are preferred. In extreme cases, PVP may be an acceptable outcome. This should never lead to nor be the result of griefing and if a player feels the murder was unjustified, a Dungeon Master may ask the murderer to explain or justify their actions. Unwarranted and unnecessary player versus player combat should be limited. Some examples include: the final showdown between two nemesis that results in one slaying the other may be acceptable; creating a sociopathic priest of Cyric simply to try and murder everyone you see is not.

    4. Naming
Please refrain from using the names of famous persons, including obvious variations. Please try to adhere to common fantasy naming conventions.

    5. Metagaming
This refers to making use of information that your character would not know. This can include, but is not limited to, using information you learned while playing one character with another character, using information from backgrounds, making use of information one learned out of character, etc.

There is limited room for flexibility with this rule to bring people together. As the server continues to grow and develop, we do not want to see players lost or alone unless they choose to be. Therefore, out of character communication may be used to arrange the meeting of a group. Again, this is limited. Please keep these OOC communications general and non-specific, such as "group meeting at the Old Skull Inn to go to Toad Knoll." Statements such as "please bring extra cure potions," "cleric needed" or "evil characters only" would not be allowed.

    6. Muling
Each character is responsible for responsible for him- or herself. This means that you may not pass equipment, treasure, gold, etc, from one of your players to another.

    7. Be Creative, but Stay True
We love to see unique character concepts, especially when they grow and mature into something even more unique, colorful and interesting! Put your imagination and creativity to the test and come up with that character that everyone loves (even if they only love to hate them)! That being said, please attempt to remain true to the setting. Particularly far-flung, ill-fitting or extreme ideas may either require DM permission or may be curtailed.

    8. The Shout Channel
The shout channel is considered an Out of Character channel and we ask that its use is limited to prevent spamming other players and breaking their immersion. Welcoming new players, greeting a player's return, and announcing one's return or departure are all acceptable uses of the channel; discussing a baseball game or the news is not.

    9. Be Nice!
This goes hand-in-hand with the Golden Rule of Having Fun! Being rude will only ruin the fun of others. This applies to OOC relationships only; your character is not required to follow this rule! It does mean, however, that if you disagree with another player or a Dungeon Master, that you both express yourselves in polite, non-offensive manners.

Once again, the most important thing to uphold is the Golden Rule! If you feel someone is violating the Golden Rule, please contact a Dungeon Master, either in game or via a private message on the forums.
